Running Down The Walls 2022!
Hi there!
Philly ABC invites you to our fifth annual Running Down The Walls to be held on Sunday, September 11th at FDR park! We hope you had an awesome time in previous years, and that you will join us again this year for another revolutionary 5K run/walk/roll and day of solidarity to amplify the voices of our comrades behind bars and maintain material support. Over the last four years Philly RDTW has raised $28,457 for current and former political prisoners and prisoners of war. Let’s do it again!
If you would like to participate in light yoga and warm-up stretches before, please arrive by 10am and bring a mat if you can. As always, running is not required; you can also walk, skate, bike, roll, or cheer! The 5K will take about 45-60 minutes at a walking pace. We’ll have light refreshments and socializing afterward.
This year’s event will benefit the Philly chapter of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement (MXGM) and the ABCF Warchest. MXGM Philly is part of the Black Philly Radical Collective, a collective of Black organizations and individuals committed to ending the war against Black Philadelphians by organizing to permanently and holistically eliminate the structures of policing and related state violence endangering the Black Community. They are also developing a Black survivalist network to provide members with training on survival of natural disasters and other threats to safety and well-being. The ABCF Warchest provides monthly stipends to political prisoners and prisoners of war who have little or no other financial support as well as disbursements for other expenses and to support people when they are released.
This year marks a milestone for the Warchest program with over $205,000 in funds raised! Due to the abominable conditions and medical neglect that political prisoners and freedom fighters are subjected to in prison, they need our support now more than ever. If you can’t make the event or would like to make an additional contribution, please contact us to learn how you can sponsor a participant either outside or inside prison.
